The Great Escape x The Guardian partnership
The Great Escape Festival is an annual music festival held in Brighton, England, known for showcasing emerging artists from around the world. Launched in 2006, it has become a key event for the discovery of new talent, with hundreds of acts performing across various venues throughout the city. The festival typically features a diverse lineup spanning genres like indie, pop, electronic, hip-hop, and more. In addition to live music, The Great Escape offers industry-focused panels, workshops, and networking opportunities, making it a significant event for both music fans and professionals.
During my time working on The Great Escape I brokered a partnership with The Guardian newspaper.
The partnership included:
Editorial exclusives such as first refusal on content, behind-the-scenes access, and the ability to record podcasts and interviews.
Marketing benefits like logo placement on promotional materials,
Tickets for giveaways,
A Guardian full-page ad in the festival program,
A branded venue and suggested speakers for the convention,
Newspapers sold on-site and other retail opportunities at the festival,
A TGE full page ad in the paper,
A TGE full page ad in the Guardian Guide,
Half a page TGE ad in the Festival Guide,
Editorial cover in the music section online and in print,
Ticket competitions ran online and in print,
Numerous social media posts on the Guardian’s channels,
Numerous placements on The Guardian’s e-newsletters,
Inclusion in the Guardian’s Music Weekly Podcast.
This was the first time the festival was able to secure a partnership with The Guardian, and due to the success the partnership continued for 4 years.
